The UB Mayor office presented the cultural and arts events to be organized this year within “Friendly Ulaanbaatar” program.

Most of the travelers and tourists arriving to Mongolia willing to see the National holiday of Naadam, the single touristic attraction and event. Though the high demand of Naadam opening tickets leaves the tourists to see the wrestling, archery and horse races. And there is almost nothing to see.

Addressing the critics the Mayor’s office started to organize special events to fill the gap and entertain not only tourists but the general public. The events include series of activities and performances at the Central Square and Khui Doloon Khudag area. The most attractive events of the last year were the National opera “Uchirtai gurvan tolgoi”, classic and rock pop music concerts. In addition to that Danshig Naadam (consolidated celebration including religious elements) featuring Buddhist customs and traditions was organized in Khui Doloon Khudag area on August 7-8 for the first time.

The last year events shall be organized again with good additions including performances and concerts.

• Last year the UB Mayor office organized number of events featuring and presented Mongolian culture, the past, current and future. How about this year?

• The events initiated and organized last year shall continue. We are going to organize contortion festival “Tales of mounts and waters” at Central Square to present the wonders of contortion art. We have added also “Ulaanbaatar book fair”, International movie festival as well as the “Play Time” live music festival. 16 cultural events are included in our program.

The events shall be organized during the Naadam as well as in August aiming to attract tourists to provide them with more entertainment and sightseeings. Events for tourists shall start from February including Winter celebration

• Leonardo DiCaprio said to visit Mongolia. Are there any more cooperation proposals and more income to come?

• This is a great news for Mongolia, such visit help promote Mongolia as a travel destination. CNN named Mongolia as one of the tourist destinations. ACEM forum shall be organized in UB. Therefore, we are aiming to launch new routes and focus on entertainment.

• The budget for “Friendly Ulaanbaatar” is said to be MNT 3.6 m. How much shall be spent for entertainment and what are the expected benefits?

• The approved budget is MNT 3.6 billion. More than half of the budget is estimated for entertainment. The tourism authority consolidated data on tourists and travelers, such as how many days do tourists spend, how much money they spend a day, what are the direct and indirect benefits, what has to be improved. We expect tourists and travelers not only from Europe, USA, but Mongolian nations including Buriads, Inner Mongolians as we have more cultural connections which we have to use

- What is the impact of the program?

- citizens have to clearly understand the economic benefits and importance. Smiling and friendly people attract others. So, more services and products with added value shall be created to bring direct results. The tax office estimated the additional MNT20 billion was created in 2015 which we aim to increase.

Note: 25 package activities shall be organized in 2016 including 16 entertainment events. The goal is to increase the number of tourists to reach 2 m target by 2020 and 5 m by 2030.
